Versatility is mostly a control problem, and Yamaha answers it with a micro-computer that trims everything from fuel mixture to combustion efficiency while you are still moving. The 1832 cc, 16-valve DOHC in-line four underneath runs Electronic Fuel Injection against a 10.0 : 1 compression ratio, and the intake and exhaust layout keeps delivery smooth and predictable whatever is behind the transom or stacked on the deck. Lively rather than laboured, whatever the day asks of it.
Practicality is built in rather than bolted on. At 176 kg – 180 kg dry, dropping the 130HP onto an older hull stays a straightforward job; wide-range power trim and tilt, with tilt limiter, spares you the expensive kind of contact; 35 A of three-phase charging holds up batteries, sounders and electronics even at trolling speed; and a Y-COP remote immobiliser makes the engine useless to anyone without the fob.

SERENITY
Low revs, long days
A patient day is a low-rev day. Variable trolling control drops engine speed in 50 rpm steps, so hours of slow, deliberate fishing stay steady instead of fidgety, and idle settles quietly between 700 – 800 r/min. When it is over, the fresh water flushing system takes the salt out through a front-mounted port with the engine switched off — better for the powerhead, and kinder to your evening.

The numbers stay modest where it matters: 826 mm of overall length, 524 mm of width, an 81.0 × 88.9 mm bore and stroke and wet-sump lubrication doing the unglamorous work. Out of that comes 95.6 kW of maximum propeller shaft output, geared 2.15 (28/13) and running 5300 – 6300 r/min at full throttle — real capability in a footprint that never dominates the transom it bolts to.
