YAMAHA 70HP

A 996 cc, 16-valve SOHC in-line four with EFI precision and PrimeStart™ ease, the Yamaha 70HP is light on the transom from 120 kg — and it runs a special high gear ratio of 2.33 that makes a modest hull feel eager.

70HP

Leverage before horsepower

Nothing about the 70HP is shouty. A 996 cc SOHC in-line four breathes through 16 valves, fed by multi-point electronic fuel injection that puts each cylinder’s charge in at exactly the right moment. Compression sits at 9.4 : 1, TCI ignition keeps the timing honest, and a peak 51.5 kW waits at the top of a 5300 – 6300 r/min full-throttle band.

What sets it apart is the gearing. A special high gear ratio — 2.33 (28/12) — multiplies low-speed effort into real shove, so a loaded boat lifts and goes rather than wallowing while it makes up its mind. Variable trolling RPM control then trims your pace in neat 50-RPM steps, enough resolution to separate two drift speeds or soften the last few metres of a dock approach, and PrimeStart™ takes the guesswork out of the first start of the day. Idle settles at a steady 700 – 800 r/min.

SERENITY

What the cowling keeps in

The compact one-piece top cowling seals the engine against spray and clutter, and its low profile keeps the noise where it belongs — under the hood rather than in the cockpit. Digital network gauges take care of the information side: speed, trim, hours and economy, all read off without hunting for them, and optional Y-COP® security locks the ignition from a pocket-sized remote the moment you step ashore.

DESIGN

ENGINE

Every dimension is drawn to leave the transom uncluttered: 713 mm long, 386 mm wide, 120 kg – 124 kg dry, with 40 degrees of steering each direction. A 15 A alternator keeps the batteries in credit, and shallow water drive on variable-position power trim & tilt lets you feel your way into water you would rather not guess the depth of.
