Nothing about this engine is tuned for a short burst. Variable camshaft timing keeps the 4169 cc, 24-valve DOHC V6 pulling through the low and mid range, where a heavy boat spends its day, and a 1.73 (26/15) gear ratio puts all 220.6 kW where a laden hull can use it: leaving the berth loaded, holding a working speed, turning round for the next run.
Control is what decides how a shift ends. Digital electronic control puts throttle and shift on wires rather than cables, so the tenth berthing of the day costs the helmsman no more than the first. Helm Master® EX takes it further when the work asks for it — from a plain DEC helm up to joystick control for a tight quay — and 32 degrees of lock each way does the rest.
