YAMAHA 30HP
Tenders, day boats and unhurried coastal runs — that is the whole remit. A compact 747 cc SOHC in-line three with multi-point EFI, the Yamaha 30HP is a four-stroke sized for the trips where quiet economy counts for far more than headline speed. Easy to fit, easy to live with.
30HP
Economy is the whole point
Open the throttle and the answer comes cleanly, without ceremony. Multi-point fuel injection puts precisely the right charge into each cylinder, which is why a cold morning costs you nothing and a full day afloat barely dents the tank. Maximum propeller shaft output is 22.1 kW across a 5000 – 6000 r/min full-throttle band, and it settles back to 750 – 850 r/min at the pontoon.
The detail work is what you notice on the twentieth outing. PrimeStart deals with cold mornings on a single touch, Power Trim & Tilt lets you set the leg for the sea you actually got rather than the one forecast, and single-action steering friction on the tiller model dials in as much helm resistance as you like and then leaves it there. Shallow water drive raises the leg for thin inlets, and the optional Y-COP reduces the whole engine to one small key fob.

SERENITY
Kind to a small transom
At 94 kg – 106 kg dry the 30HP asks very little of a transom, and hands the saved weight back as balance and response. The one-piece top cowling closes tight over the engine and keeps the noise inside it, so conversation survives the cruise. Steering swings 40 degrees each direction, and YDC-30 alloy with stainless hardware and multi-stage coating holds the salt at arm’s length.
DESIGN
ENGINE
The triple itself is 747 cc, with a 65.0 × 75.0 mm bore and stroke and 9.4 : 1 compression — modest figures, tuned for usable torque at the revs a day boat actually spends its time at. A 2.0 (26/13) gear ratio and CDI ignition keep delivery smooth, wet-sump lubrication keeps servicing simple, and a 17 A alternator tops the battery up as you go.
